Białystok is home to the region’s three largest universities the Białystok University of Technology, the Medical University and the University of Białystok. They have been providing education at the highest level for many years now, and are highly popular among students both from Poland and abroad.

Białystok University of Technology 

It is the region’s largest technical university. Candidates may choose from 30 future-oriented courses, which include Computer Science, Automatic Control and Robotics, or Architecture. Students complete internships and work placements at the University’s partner companies as early as during their studies.

From Architecture to Computer Science 

The Białystok University of Technology is composed of 6 faculties: Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Management. They are attended by nearly 8 thousand students. Some of the courses are taught in English. They include Construction and Building Systems Engineering, Logistics, Mechatronics, and Management.  

Campus at the heart of the city

The BUT Campus is a thriving student town located near a park in the heart of Białystok. It is the grounds for the annual students’ carnival, which gathers undergraduates from all Białystok public and private universities. The campus hosts the iconic “Gwint” club and the Akadera radio station. The BUT studentshostels offer nearly 1400 places. 

Inventions and startups

The BUT students, who pursue their passions in over 60 scientific research clubs, have won many international prizes for their projects. Their greatest achievements include the famous Mars rovers, which have won the prestigious University Rover Challenge competitions in the USA, the Cerber Motorsport racing cars, inventions made by Petros Psyllos, who was recognised by Forbes as one of the greatest European technological innovators, or the educational robot Photon, which teaches kids how to programme, the winner of the 2018 Presidential Economic Award in the “Best Polish Startup” category.

Medical University of Białystok

The Medical University of Białystok is housed in the stunning 18th century Branicki Palace, in the very heart of the city. For years now, the MUB has topped nationwide rankings as the best academic institution in this part of Poland. 

An international university

At present there are 5 thousand under- and postgraduates attending 15 medical programmes. 400 of them study in English. Foreign students come from 34 countries, mainly from Norway, Sweden, USA, Canada, Germany and Spain. The MUB is the only university in Poland to have received funding under the Horizon 2020 COFUND 2016 (Marie Curie Action) Programme. The objective of the project is to create Interdisciplinary Doctoral Studies in the field of medical biology and statistical bioinformatics. 

The MUB is divided into three faculties: Faculty of Medicine (with the Division of Dentistry), Faculty of Pharmacy (with the Division of Laboratory Medicine) and Faculty of Health Sciences. By now, the Medical University of Białystok boasts over 28 thousand graduates.

The in vitro breakthrough

1987 in the University’s history was marked by an extraordinary event. Poland’s first IVF baby was born at the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Białystok is still one of the strongest centres of infertility treatment in Poland. 

Research and development

The University runs a wide range of advanced research and scientific projects. Current research programmes of strategic importance include innovative cohort studies that allow detection of civilization diseases in the early stages of their development, as well as the creation of reference model for personalized tumour diagnosis.

University of Białystok

One of the largest universities in north-eastern Poland. It consists of 9 faculties, including a foreign one in Vilnius, Lithuania, and has almost 11 thousand students. The UwB provides thorough education in the fields of social, humanistic, mathematical and natural studies.

Diverse

Students may choose from over 30 different programmes. The Faculty of Law has topped law school rankings in Poland for many years. 5 out of 9 faculties offer doctoral studies.

It was the UwB initiative to establish the Network of Borderland Universities, which brings together universities from Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine and Russia in order to apply for international funding and implement joint scientific projects. The UwB also runs programmes in foreign languages Russian and English.

Modern

A few years ago the mathematical and natural faculties moved to the new campus  one of the most modern academic complexes in Poland. The campus was built amid nature, close to the “Las Zwierzyniecki” nature reserve. It houses over 800 state-of-the-art lecture halls, training rooms and laboratories. The campus is also the seat of the University Centre of Culture, which hosts a variety of lectures, spectacles and concerts open to public.
